Water Purifier Reviews

If you regularly travel long distances or multi-day trips, you know the problem: you need enough drinking water, but don’t want to carry too much because of the weight. Water purifiers can help in this regard. You can use them to filter water on the road and replenish your supply. We tried two different water purifiers, the MSR and the GRAYL, and explained how they work and the differences.

MSR Guardian Purifier: Pump Water Purifier

The Guardian Purifier comes with a handy pouch. The MSR brand name stands for Mountain Safety Research – and that’s exactly what this product is all about. The MSR Guardian Purifier was originally developed for US military units. As a result, the quality is very high.
Even in extremely polluted water, the purifier filters out viruses, bacteria, protozoa and sediments. This makes it suitable for use in developing countries and wildlife areas. The filter meets the US Army NSF standard P284. this is the most stringent standard for water filters in the US. It is now also available for hikers and globetrotters. The Guardian Purifier comes with a practical bag to pack it in while traveling.

How to Filter Water with the Guardian Purifier
The Guardian Purifier works like a pump. To filter water, first unscrew the red cap at the bottom of the purifier and place the hose into the water. The pre-filter is held in place by a foam float just below the surface of the water, where the water is the cleanest and has been able to keep out coarse dirt.

Using a lever, dirty water is pumped into the Guardian and cleaned in the hollow fiber filter. Clean drinking water flows out through the opening at the bottom. If you have a drinking bottle with a suitable thread, you can screw it directly onto the purifier. Since the water is pumped out of the filter in a fine stream, you can also simply place it over the opening of any bottle or cup and fill it in this way.

The pump unit works easily and quickly. It pumps about 2.5 liters of water per minute. The purifier is also self-cleaning. Every time the pump bursts, it flushes out impurities from the water. The hollow fiber cartridge is extremely durable and can purify up to 10,000 liters of water before needing to be replaced.
