Winter is coming. No, it’s really coming.

The cold never stops people from getting out and having fun. In fact, it’s the perfect time to put on your winter gear and have fun in the pure white snow. There are many activities one can do: skiing, ice skating, snowboarding, and having fun with the snow. White snow may seem pure and innocent, but it can give you a cold/flu that you don’t want – you need to protect yourself. A ski jacket is a windproof and waterproof fabric that keeps you warm and dry. It is highly functional and can be made from any fabric, from nylon (synthetic fibers) to cotton (organic fibers). People typically wear three layers in the winter: an inner/base layer, a mid-layer, and an outer layer.

The function of the inner/base layer is to protect against sweat. For this reason, the inner layer is usually made of breathable materials to make the wearer more comfortable. Fabric materials include cotton, silk, wool and other synthetic materials.
The function of the mid-layer garment is to protect against the cold, but most importantly, to provide additional insulation. The insulation function is related to air circulation and keeping heat in and out. For this reason, mid-layer clothing is usually looser than inner/bottom layers. As a result, it maintains a balance between the inner/bottom layer and the outer garment during exercise (e.g., physical activity). Mid-layers can be made from a variety of fabrics, including wool, cotton, fleece and polyester.

The outer shell layer is usually made up of multiple layers of material to keep the wearer warm and comfortable. For example, ski clothing can be divided into three parts: one-piece ski suits, ski jackets and ski pants. One-piece ski suits cover the entire body with a one-piece fabric that looks like overalls. First, the legs are put into the ski suit and then zipped or buttoned up to the top of the pants. Often, jumpsuits do not provide complete protection from the cold, so it is recommended to wear a warm layer underneath. The outer layer usually acts as a “shell” to protect against wind and water.
Ski jackets, on the other hand, are constructed to protect against the cold. Ski jackets may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, but as mentioned above, ski jackets usually have a multi-layer construction. Ski jackets are known by various names: down jackets, winter shells, thermals or parkas. This is because ski jackets evolved from the Safari jackets of the mid 1950s to the 1980s.
